Ellen Coley

PARTNER
Ellen works through complex legal issues so that her clients can focus on the continued success of their businesses. She understands that identifying and managing potential risks before they become problems is one of the keys to success. To that end, Ellen is particularly focused on implementing proactive training and compliance programs to help guard her clients against costly and time-consuming litigation as well as potential civil and criminal liability.

After clerking for the Supreme Court of Virginia, Ellen Coley practiced law as a trial lawyer with one of Virginia’s premier firms, Kaufman & Canoles, P.C. Through years of active litigation practice, she recognizes the stressful impact that litigation can have on both the businesses and individuals involved. Her experience in complex litigation at both the state and federal levels provides her with the insight to advise clients about various litigation options and also to represent them in state, federal, and administrative legal proceedings. At the same time, Ellen advises government contractors on compliance issues and regularly provides counsel on international business and export control matters.

A Hampton Roads native, Ellen is actively involved in a number of community and business groups. Ellen is the President for the Virginia Women Attorney’s Association, Hampton Roads Chapter and is on the executive board for the Propeller Club, Port of Norfolk. In addition, she is a member of the Associated Builders and Contractors in Hampton Roads.  Ellen has also served as an adjunct professor for Regent University School of Law.
